For the purposes of this document, the following terms defined in ISO 10303-1 apply:

For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply:

derived shape element

shape element that is related to an integral shape element

EXAMPLE    The axis of a hole is a derived shape element.

NOTE    In some standards the term derived is reserved for the case where the relating shape element is not itself an integral shape element.

element

general term for portion or aspect of something

3.1.2.3
integral shape element; integral feature

portion of the shape that lies entirely on the surface of the shape

EXAMPLE    The cylindrical surface of a hole feature is an integral shape element.

3.1.2.4
shape element; feature

general term for any aspect or element of a shape which need not lie on the boundary nor even within the material of the shape

EXAMPLE 1   A hole feature is a shape element.

EXAMPLE 2   The axis of a hole is a shape element.

NOTE 1   The terms feature and element are in some standards reserved for the more restrictive sense of integral shape element.
